I see the error message 'Domain name incorrect'

Why am I seeing this message?

If you see the message 'Domain name incorrect' when you view a Squarespace website then it is likely that the website is attempting to use an unauthorised copy of one of our Squarespace plugins. For example, you may have duplicated the website with the plugin installed, changed one of the domain names or upgraded the site to a new version of Squarespace.

Domain name incorrect messageError Message

When you purchase a Squarespace plugin from us, you get a single copy of the software for use on a single website. Plugins are not transferable between websites and/or domains so, when you placed your order, you provided us with the domain names that you planned to use with your Squarespace website. To protect our rights, the plugin is then locked to these domains. If the plugin is used on a different domain, you will see this message.

How do I remove this message?

You can remove this message using one of the following methods.

1. Restoring the original domain name. If you accidentally changed the domain name, you can remove the error by restoring the original domain name.

2. Contacting us for support. If you are using the plugin legitimately and are simply changing the domain, you can contact us to resolve this. If you are using an older version of the plugin, you may need to purchase an upgrade to use the latest version. You may need to place your site in safe mode (see below) to allow you to do this.

3. Removing the plugin from the website. If the plugin was installed on the site without a valid licence, you may remove it. Once you are logged on to your website in safe mode, navigate to the Code Injection panel and remove the plugin script. This should be clearly labelled, but may be hundreds of lines of text. Take care not to remove other code. Once you have saved the changes, and refreshed your browser, the error should disappear.

Safe Mode

To place your website in safe mode, to allow you to change the domain name or remove the plugin code, navigate to your website in your browser and then add "/config/safe" to the URL shown in the browser. For example, if your site's domain name is https://example.squarespace.com then you should navigate to the URL https://example.squarespace.com/config/safe to allow you to edit the code. This will place your site in safe mode.

How do I use the plugin with another website/domain?

As explained above, plugins are not transferable between websites and/or domains. If you'd like to use one of our plugins on another site, please purchase another copy.
